The Home of Luxury Cape Town Chocolate
Why plan a Swiss vacation when you can indulge in all the Cape Town luxury of unique activities, fine dining and artisan chocolate too? De Villiers Chocolate is proving that local really is ‘lekker’ when it comes to the food of the Gods.
In The Background
De Villiers Chocolate started out as a backyard garage operation using only recycled home appliances. Today, the chocolaterie boasts two outlets in the Western Cape.
At the Spice Route farm in Paarl, visitors are treated to views of the entire process from bean to bar, through glass windows overlooking the factory. Every delicious drop is made using natural ingredients that are GMO and gluten free, and every minute of the 7-day process is overseen by passionate dedicated chocolate makers.
In Franschhoek, De Villiers Chocolate Café showcases the full range of their exertions amid the tranquil setting of some of the Cape’s finest wine lands.
Both outlets offer an outstanding variety of sinfully delicious coffee and ice cream too. All created from scratch by the dedicated De Villiers Team.
Quality and Sustainability
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, a ‘background’ check on these artisans reveals that most of their beans hail from Africa. Unbelievably, Africa produces over 70% of the world’s cocoa beans. However, only 1% of the world’s chocolate is made here.
De Villiers chocolate is dedicated to making the best of this wonderful natural resource. Every bean is traceable to farm level and grown without exploitation of the earth or its people.
The Sweet Handcrafted Collection, enrobed fruit and African Collection are all UTZ certified.
UTZ (short for Utz Kapeh, meaning ‘Good Coffee’) is the global watchdog of sustainable production for coffee, tea and cocoa. Their stamp of approval is only awarded to products that are farmed using environmentally and ethically correct methods.
One look at the De Villiers’ website reveals a wonderland of chocolate in all its forms. From snacking chocolate, elegant gift sets, Blonde bars and butter caramels to chocolate coated nuts, truffles, coffee beans and nougat, De Villiers’ chocolates are inspired by their surrounds where they go hand to mouth with some of the best quality wines.
You won’t know where to start when you visit De Villiers and it doesn’t matter, because it’s all equally delicious and as healthy as chocolate can be. The good news is that you can order all of their products online, or check out your local high-end supermarkets for a taste. The bad news is it’s just not the same as a visit to the source
Don’t miss the chance to experience this special place during your Cape Town luxury break. You’ll be so glad you did.
