NORTHERN SUBURBS ACCOMMODATION FINDER

The Northern Suburbs of the Cape Peninsula could be said to start from the working class suburb of Maitland, but in reality they are dominated by three suburbs: Bellville, Parow and Goodwood. The northern areas have become a major entertainment centre, with developments such as the Grand West Casino and the huge Canal Walk shopping mall being sited there.

Bellville
The city of Bellville started out as a village called 12 Mile Stone, the exact distance from the centre of Cape Town. It was renamed in 1861 after the Surveyor General of the Cape, Charles Bell. Today the city is a thriving business centre with all the major corporate entities having offices there, it is also the national headquarters of Sanlam, one of the largest insurance companies in Africa. The city offers convenient access to the international airport, golf course and wine routes. The up-market Tygervalley shopping mall is located in Bellville, and the city is home to one of the best indoor cycle tracks in the country. In addition to cycle races the velodrome
is often utilised for rock concerts and equestrian events.

Parow
In 1865 one Johan Parow, a Prussian sea captain was wrecked in Table Bay, being a resourceful man he became a farmer and left his name to the town that grew up on his lands. The town is on the eastern end of the Tygerberg hills and is best known for the Tygerberg Hospital.

Goodwood
Named after the famous British racetrack because horse races were originally held there, Goodwood is now best known as being the home of the Grand West Casino and a world class ice skating rink. The town is also close to the century City complex which comprises the huge Canal Walk shopping mall.
