Constantia Uitsig – Winter MTB Pump Track and Post Adrenalin Dining

Planning a luxury Cape Town day out? Look no further than Constantia Uitsig in Fir Grove, Constantia. This prestigious countryside estate offers hours of outdoor entertainment whizzing around the recently upgraded Bike Park or relaxing on the deck overlooking it.

The venue is open 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm, allowing you ample opportunity to make the best of the tracks during your time out.

Hit the dirt
Whether you are a pro mountain biking enthusiast or just starting out, this 2.8 km pump track is sure to provide plenty of thrills with steep drop-offs, a wooden berm, rock gardens, rollers, and a 4m high suspension sky bridge alongside the beginners’ obstacles. The corkscrew exit provides a fitting end to these thrilling exertions.

The track was designed by Chris Nixon, the reigning Downhill World Champion, so you can be sure that a test is in store from start to finish. Chris is already working on his next project with the team at Constantia Uitsig – a dual slalom race track, so be sure to return to try that out too.

All you need
Extra facilities onsite include the Bike Barn, where spectators can get up close to the action, a shop filled with spares and a range of cycling protective gear, and a repair shop. Chris is there most days to offer advice and guidance, or you can sign up for private or group coaching with him if you prefer.

For added convenience there are bikes and gear for hire, so out-of-towners can join in the fun. The entry fee is R50 per day for bikers or R750 per year, tickets are discounted to R30 between 8 and 9am daily and there is no charge for spectators.

Hit the deck
After the action, you can wind-down at the gorgeous Open Door restaurant which overlooks the track. Enjoy a light lunch on the deck or in the gorgeously decorated interior, filled with brass, fitted with low banquettes and sporting a sparkling open kitchen. Several design elements crack the nod at the schoolroom past of this historic building. Dinner is a more elaborate affair, with a small but pleasing menu featuring light, crispy fritters, succulent crayfish and rich dark chocolate dessert, amongst other gourmet treats. The wine selection is filled with interesting finds and there is a limited wine-by-the-glass option.

Make a day of it at Constantia Uitsig for a luxury Cape Town mix of elegance and exertion this winter.
